Gucci Morty Meme
Same Morty. New haircut, skinny jeans, a Gucci tee and unreasonable aura.
Past its peak. Add your own twist.
The Gucci Morty meme is an edited image of Morty Smith from Rick and Morty with short dark hair, skinny jeans, a Gucci T-shirt and a calm, unbothered face. It was posted on Instagram on August 16, 2026, and spread on X, TikTok and Reddit through late August. People share Gucci Morty as ironic praise for his enormous "aura," and the fan edit is not from the show.
What does Gucci Morty Meme mean?
Posting Gucci Morty is mock hype: treating a famously anxious cartoon kid as the most charismatic person alive. "Aura" here means effortless cool, from the slang that since 2024 has scored a person's presence like points in a video game, and the joke is that Gucci Morty has more of it than anyone. The caption usually pretends to be stunned by how calm and put-together he looks.
Two uses stand out. One is the swipe-to-reveal video that starts on regular Morty in his yellow T-shirt and ends on Gucci Morty, as if the glow-up just happened. The other is the family joke, like a viral X post that used the image to describe the one cousin who is lowkey a failure but chill.
Why did Gucci Morty Meme take off?
Gucci Morty slots into the ironic aura humor of 2025 and 2026, and the joke lands instantly: a character everyone knows, in a look nobody expected from him. In the show Morty is the nervous one next to his grandfather Rick, so a calm, dressed-up Gucci Morty reads as a total reinvention.
The format is also easy to copy. One image works as a still meme, a music edit, a swipe reveal, a cosplay or an AI video. A fake claim that Gucci Morty was coming to Fortnite spread on X in late August, and on Sep 1 the meme placed fourth in Know Your Meme's August poll.
Where did Gucci Morty Meme come from?
Gucci Morty started as fan art of Morty Smith, Rick Sanchez's anxious 14-year-old grandson in Adult Swim's Rick and Morty, which premiered in December 2013. The edit gives him short dark hair, skinny jeans, a Gucci T-shirt and a calm, unbothered expression.
The earliest known Gucci Morty post went up on Instagram on Aug 16, 2026, and passed 100,000 likes in eight days. Know Your Meme calls it the earliest known edit and doesn't name an artist. The image is not from the show, and no episode features it.
From there Gucci Morty moved fast. On Aug 17, an X account posted a RapTV-style parody announcing that Morty is trying something new, which passed 15,000 likes in a week. TikTok edits followed: one set him against a fish-tank backdrop and passed 506,000 views in five days, and a swipe-reveal edit passed 630,000 views in four. By Aug 24, Know Your Meme had published an entry and an explainer, describing cosplays, stylized video edits and AI-generated videos built on the image.

Popular versions of Gucci Morty Meme
Swipe-to-reveal edits
The video version starts on ordinary Morty and slowly uncovers Gucci Morty, so the punchline arrives a strip at a time. One of these TikToks passed 630,000 views in four days in August 2026.
Gucci Morty music edits
Know Your Meme says edits setting the image to music were key to the spread. There is no single Gucci Morty song: the biggest TikToks it documents use original sounds, and creators pick whatever confident track fits their own edit of the image.
Gucci Morty cosplay
Fans dress in skinny jeans, a Gucci tee and the short dark haircut, then post a photo next to the cartoon. One side-by-side on Instagram passed 64,400 likes in a day on Aug 23, 2026. Another fan took the look off the screen entirely and spray-painted Gucci Morty on a wall.
Gucci family and fake news
Artists gave other Rick and Morty characters the same dripped-out treatment, and an evil Gucci Morty and a meet-the-family joke about streetwear labels followed. Parody news posts joined in, including a fake announcement of a Mecha Gucci Morty skin in Fortnite.
