Bangs Filter
A bangs filter puts a fringe on your face, live on camera or from a photo, so you can see how bangs would look before you cut them. It went viral as a TikTok effect in February 2022, when Dexerto, We Got This Covered and In The Know by Yahoo all explained how to find it. AI versions now draw curtain, blunt, wispy or side-swept bangs onto an uploaded photo.

Try the fringe on camera before it lives on your forehead for months.
Past its peak. Searches are down from the high. Still fine to make, best with your own twist.

What does Bangs Filter mean?
A bangs filter is a try-before-you-cut tool. Bangs are a big decision: We Got This Covered put it plainly in 2022, saying that if you hate them, you're stuck with them for months, if not longer. The filter takes that risk away. It finds your face and adds a fringe, and you see how it frames your eyes and cheekbones before anyone picks up scissors.
People use the bangs filter in two ways. Some are really deciding: the 2022 posts were tagged #shouldigetbangs, and In The Know by Yahoo wrote that while some people found out bangs weren't for them, the filter encouraged others to get the chop. Others just play with a look they would never commit to, and post the reaction.
Why did Bangs Filter take off?
The bangs filter answers a question almost everyone with long hair has asked, and the answer lands in the first second of the clip. Dexerto wrote that some people found the results surprisingly realistic, which is what turns a joke into a real preview.
It also makes an easy video. The before is your normal face, the after is you with a fringe, and the comments do the rest: should she cut them or not? Duets and stitches let friends try the same bangs filter and answer back, as Audrey Trullinger's February 2022 stitch did.
Where did Bangs Filter come from?
Hair filters were around before, but the bangs filter had its moment on TikTok in February 2022. On February 6, the creator Audrey Trullinger posted a stitch with TikTok's bangs effect, tagged #bangs, #shouldigetbangs and #bangsfilter. On February 8, @ayame.p posted the effect with the caption "If I cut a fringe I don't wanna hear ANYTHING from ANYONE"; TikTok shows 2.1 million plays on that post as of October 23, 2026.
Within days the how-to guides followed. On February 10, Dexerto called bangs the latest effect to go viral and noted it was built into TikTok, unlike filters that need Snapchat or Instagram. The same day, We Got This Covered said several effects give you bangs, but the one causing a stir was made by the effect creator eren.dere. In The Know by Yahoo published its own three steps on February 11.
The bangs filter never really went away, because the question never did. Today AI tools such as AirBrush and CapCut make the fringe from an uploaded photo instead of a live camera, and Google's suggestions for the phrase in October 2026 include free, online, app, Instagram and Snapchat versions.

Popular versions of Bangs Filter
The live TikTok effect
The 2022 original: a camera effect that tracks your face and adds a fringe while you record. We Got This Covered found several creator-made versions when it searched TikTok.
Should I get bangs?
The deciding version: try the bangs filter, show the before and after, and let the comments vote. The 2022 posts carried #shouldigetbangs.
The bangs filter from a photo
AI tools work from a still instead. AirBrush lists blunt, curtain, side-swept, wispy bangs and a thin fringe; CapCut has a wispy bangs filter for an uploaded photo.
Named styles
People search for one cut at a time: Google suggests curtain bangs, baby bangs and micro bangs filters, so the style is part of the search.
How do I make Bangs Filter?
- Photos
- 1 photo of you
- Output
- Image: vertical 9:16, about a minute, 5 credits
- You choose
- A caption (optional)
- Fixed
- One person per picture, and the bangs are the only change
You get
- A picture of you with bangs cut into the front of your own hair, in your own colour and texture
- The bangs style you type: curtain bangs if you leave it empty, or blunt, wispy, side-swept and so on
- Your face, the length of your hair, your clothes and the background kept as in the photo
Not included
- A live camera filter or TikTok's bangs effect: it's made from one photo
- A video: this one is a picture
- A guarantee of the real cut: your stylist cuts for how your hair actually falls
Step by step
- Tap "Put me in it" at the bottom of this page.
- Upload your photo, or both photos. A clear, front-facing face works best.
- Type a caption, or leave it empty.
- The price is on the button, and a new account that signs in with Google gets 10 credits free.
- Wait for it to finish. It is saved under Me, where you can download or share it. A render that fails is refunded.
How to post Bangs Filter on TikTok
- Start from a clear, front-facing photo with your hair off your forehead, so the bangs filter has room to work.
- Post the before and the after side by side and ask the comments: cut them or not?
- Try two styles, curtain and blunt for example, and let people pick.
- If you do get the cut, post the real bangs next to the filter version.
Questions about Bangs Filter
Is there a filter that gives you bangs?
Yes. TikTok has bangs effects made by its creators; the one that spread in February 2022 adds a fringe live while you record. AI tools also add bangs to an uploaded photo, and this page makes a picture of you with the bangs style you choose.
How do I get the bangs filter on TikTok?
In The Know by Yahoo's 2022 steps: open Discover, search "bangs", pick a bangs effect (there are many; that guide named the one by @eren.dere) and record with the camera on your face. Effects come and go, so the list you see may differ.
Is there a bangs filter on Instagram or Snapchat?
The 2022 coverage was about TikTok: Dexerto noted this effect was built into TikTok, unlike filters that need Snapchat or Instagram. We found no dated report of one bangs lens that spread on either app; search "bangs" or "fringe" in their effect search.
Is there a free bangs filter online?
TikTok's effects come with the free app. Among AI sites, AirBrush says you can try its fringe filter online for free, with some advanced features needing a subscription. Ours is paid: a picture costs 5 credits, and a failed render is refunded.
How would I look with curtain bangs?
Upload a front-facing photo and type the style: the bangs filter on this page uses curtain bangs when you leave the box empty, cut into your own hair in your own colour. Compare it with blunt or wispy bangs before you choose.
Does a bangs filter show how real bangs will look?
It's a good preview of the shape on your face, not a promise. A filter guesses how hair falls; cowlicks, curls and how you style it each morning change the real thing. Take the picture to your stylist as a reference.
Which bangs styles can I try?
Any you can name. The common ones are curtain bangs (parted in the middle), blunt bangs (straight across), wispy bangs (light and see-through) and side-swept bangs. Google also suggests baby bangs and micro bangs filters, which are shorter.
Can I use a bangs filter on a photo instead of the camera?
Yes. Live effects need the camera, but AI bangs filters work from a photo you already have, which is how ours works: one photo of you, one picture back, with only the fringe added.
