AI Game Merging
Minecraft in Elden Ring. Skateboards in Call of Duty. Nobody asked, everybody watched.
Rising. Best time to post.
AI game merging is a trend where modders use AI coding tools to combine two video games into one playable mashup, like Minecraft inside Elden Ring or skateboarding inside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It took off on X, YouTube, Reddit and TikTok in late September 2026, led by a creator called Chasm, and Know Your Meme says the AI used is usually Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5. The clips have started a big debate about modding, copyright and what AI can now build.
What does AI Game Merging mean?
AI game merging means taking two games that were never meant to meet and making them run together. In a typical AI game merging clip, a Minecraft creeper fights an Elden Ring boss, or a Call of Duty soldier rides a skateboard across a familiar map. The person behind it usually didn't write the code by hand: they described what they wanted to an AI coding agent, tested the result and kept giving feedback, a style people call vibe coding.
For viewers, an AI game merging clip is half amazement and half joke. Captions like "AI game merging has changed EVERYTHING" sit next to mock alarm, as when Chasm posted that "AI hackers" had put skateboarding in Modern Warfare 2 and "this has gone too far." Under the AI game merging jokes is a real question: if anyone can mash games together in hours, what happens to modding?
Why did AI Game Merging take off?
AI game merging spread because the results are instantly shareable. Everyone knows what Minecraft and Elden Ring look like, so a ten-second AI game merging clip of the two together needs no explanation. @TobynJacobs's Minecraft inside Elden Ring passed 308,000 likes in a week, and Chasm's YouTube video "Modding has Changed FOREVER..." passed 2.4 million views in a week, per Know Your Meme.
AI coding tools had also become strong enough to make it feel plausible: Sovereign Magazine reported that the Modern Warfare 2 mashups built on a new open-source engine whose documentation says it was written by an LLM. Copyright drama added fuel to AI game merging too: a Super Mario 64 and Elden Ring merge passed 2.9 million views before it was disabled after a copyright claim.
Where did AI Game Merging come from?
The trend began on September 19, 2026, when the X user @chasmmmmmmmmmmm, known as Chasm, said he had rewritten Skate 3 in Rust, "aiming for 1:1 behaviour through a human-and-AI development loop," and called it the real future of game preservation. Know Your Meme lists it as the earliest known viral example of AI game merging.
On September 27, Chasm posted skateboarding inside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which passed 29,000 likes, and the next day a video merging Call of Duty with Minecraft. Sovereign Magazine reported that this build used IW4L, a Modern Warfare 2 engine written in Rust that vladtrc published in mid-September, which loads game files from copies the player already owns.
Then everyone joined the AI game merging wave. Minecraft inside Elden Ring, Skyrim with Escape From Tarkov and Mario Kart inside Call of Duty: World at War Zombies went viral within days. Know Your Meme added its AI game merging entry on October 6, 2026, and Decrypt rounded up the wildest mashups on October 8.
